Randall O’Toole Misses the Fine Print!

At a recent property rights conference in Bozeman, Montana, anti-Smart Growth spokesman Randall O’Toole was taking part in a panel discussion when he was asked a question concerning my opposition to Agenda 21 and Sustainable Development. Said the questioner, “DeWeese calls the sustainability doctrine ‘a complete agenda of control,’ that has been largely embraced by most aspects of the government.” O’Toole was asked to comment on that. Introduction: The tyranny of Sustainable Development is being felt in every community of our nation. Here is another report,so similar to those found in hometowns everywhere. Yet, the news media continues to ignore the plight of property owners and the courts refuse to hear the cases, saying those complaining have “no standing.” These are the growing outrages that are causing regular Americans everywhere to rise up and say “enough!” This story, from my good friend and associate Alan Caruba details the effects such policies have on small, rural communities and why we must rise up to stop it. After more than15 years of trying to warn Americans about the dangers of Sustainable Development, finally, many in the freedom movement are beginning to understand that it is the root of most of the issues we are fighting today. But it is a vast, complicated issue that is difficult to comprehend – even for those of us who have been studying it for so long. We have reported many times that most Sustainable Development policy has not come directly from laws passed in Congress. Rather it has been invoked through international treaties, Executive Orders, grant offerings and behind-the-scene efforts in local communities. That’s about to change. (more…)
